Calcium bromide is the name for compounds with the chemical formula CaBr2(H2O)x. Individual compounds include the anhydrous material (x = 0), the hexahydrate (x = 6), and the dihydrate (x = 2).

Calcium bromide 52% solution is used as a completion and work-over fluid to control wellbore pressures in upstream oil & gas operations. It can be used alone or mixed with calcium chloride and/or zinc/calcium bromide to achieve a clear, solids-free fluid over a wide range of densities and crystallization temperatures. It provides inhibition, preventing hydration and migration of swelling clays, and can be use for packer fluids or to adjust the density of other brine system.
