Methyl Gallate

Methyl gallate or Methyl 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate is a phenolic compound. It is the methyl ester of gallic acid. It is an antioxidant.

Description: White or almost white crystalline powder, odorless.
Solubility: Very slightly soluble in water, freely soluble in ethanol (96 per cent).
Melting Point: 20C to 204C
Appearance of Solution: The solution is clear and not more intensely colored than reference solution.
Gallic Acid: Maximum. 0.50%
Sulphate: Maximum 0.12%
Zinc: Maximum 25 ppm
Heavy Metals: Maximum 10 ppm
Sulphated Ash: Maximum 0.1%
Loss on Drying at 105C: Maximum 0.5%
Assay: Minimum 99.00%.
