Antimony Pentachloride is a chemical compound of formula SbCl5. It is colorless oil, but typical samples are yellowish due to impurities. Owing to its tendency to hydrolyze to hydrochloric acid, SbCl5 is a highly corrosive substance. Antimony pentachloride is a highly corrosive substance that should be stored away from heat and moisture. Antimony(V) chloride is used as a catalyst and an analytical reagent for testing alkaloids and cesium. It is also used as a polymerization catalyst as well as involved in the chlorination of organic compounds. It acts as a Lewis acid and a strong oxidizing agent.
