Acids like hydrochloric acid, acetic acid and other acids are used in pre-fracturing stage or before the actual commencement of fracturing to clean out the perforations in the wellbore and to initiate fissures in the surrounding rock. Acetic acid is a weak organic acid that is used in fracturing. It is slightly more costly but much less harmful than Hydrochloric acid. Due to its relatively low corrosion tendency, it is preferred over Hydrochloric acid. It is unlikely to corrode the casing even on exposure for several days. It gets sequestered against iron precipitation. It does not induce stress cracking. Vinegar is a liquid consisting mainly of Acetic acid and water. Vinegar is mainly used as a cooking ingredient and historically it is the most easily available mild acid. This point is cited in favor of acetic acid in the discussion on “Dangers of Fracking or Fracturing”. We offer both Glacial and Diluted Acetic Acid in Tankers and IBC Totes.
